WING CHUN KUNG FU 詠春拳
ABOUT MASTER INSTRUCTOR
Michael Militano was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York during the Martial Arts Golden Age of the 1970s. From an early age, he demonstrated natural talent as an athlete and fighter, but after years of studying boxing, wrestling, some Karate. Jiu Jitsu, gymnastics, and various weaponry, he found his niche in Wing Chun.
Under the sole instruction of Grandmaster Jason Lau (in the lineage of Jiu Wan), Michael Militano's exceptional aptitude, rigorous training ethic, and understanding of Wing Chun was obvious as he advanced rapidly to the top of the class. After only three years of study, Grandmaster Jason Lau appointed Michael Militano to teach, and soon thereafter, to take over the school when Grandmaster Lau left New York. See biography and timeline.
A purist and pragmatist, Sifu Militano's Wing Chun is distinct in its artful aggression. He trains his students for effectiveness and efficiency, emphasizing technique and precision of structure, without pretense of mystic philosophy.
Instructors as well as many students from other martial arts schools have turned to Sifu Militano's expertise to enhance their knowledge of fighting - and for good reason. His competitive students (of all levels) have won numerous tournaments when competing against advanced level martial artists. Sifu Militano has taught Wing Chun to law enforcement instructors, military personnel, children, the blind and visually impaired, and he was invited to train the U.S. National Guard.
Many students who previously studied Wing Chun at other schools attest that they were only truly satisfied and challenged with Sifu Militano’s instruction.
This year, Sifu Michael Militano celebrates 40 years of teaching.
While most martial arts demand a great expenditure of energy, simplicity and economy of movement are core traits of Wing Chun.
Wing Chun makes use of rapid, effective, efficient techniques that rely on the body's natural structure for power, simultaneous blocks and attacks, and the economical use of angles, distance, and redirection of the opponent's energy. Training in this discipline therefore develops lightning fast speed and the ability to react instantaneously to somatic information.
Also unique to Wing Chun is a straight punch that can severely injure a person from as little as 3.0 inches away, or less.

"I joined Sifu Militano’s Wing Chun School in December last year. I was a complete beginner and before I started, I never would have thought I could learn and improve so much in such short time, but with Sifu Militano’s training, guidance and advice, I was able to make great progress very quickly. His knowledge of Wing Chun is nothing but astonishing and he offers a very comprehensive and well thought out training system that covers every aspect of this art. Physical fitness, strength, the techniques of Wing Chun, knowledge of the tradition, mental and physical flexibility and most importantly the real world applicability of everything he teaches are being taught and demonstrated in a sophisticated and understandable manner. The fact that he demonstrates everything he teaches to show the real world applications of the techniques means that the students are motivated and eager to learn and train in order to master this beautiful and effective martial art."
